The difference between bone marrow puncture needle and sternal puncture

Dec 08, 2022

Aplastic and most haematological diseases should be clearly diagnosed primarily through bone penetration.

Most bone piercings are done through the iliac bone, but if the iliac bone piercings don't confirm the diagnosis then you have to go through the sternum again, so you can make the right diagnosis.

There is more red pulp in the marrow cavity of the sternum, so it may be slightly more accurate to Pierce through the sternum than through the iliac.

Get a bone marrow biopsy.
