Soft tissue tumor incision biopsy needle

Biopsy is necessary for accurate diagnosis to determine prognosis and treatment options for soft tissue tumors, and for malignant tumors to determine its stage. Obtaining adequate specimens from the appropriate site of the sarcoma is important for accurate diagnosis and staging. The most ideal excisional biopsy for most acral masses is simultaneous removal of a small amount of adjacent tissue. Partial excisional biopsy should be avoided for tumors larger than 2 cm in diameter, as this method may cause tumor contamination of surrounding tissue and lead to a wider final resection.

Deep tumors can be diagnosed with central tumor biopsy, but limited specimens may make tumor grading and prognosis difficult. Fine-needle aspiration (fna) cytology is best performed in high volume and multidisciplinary settings because accurate diagnosis of this technique requires extensive experience and careful consultation with the clinical radiology department. The unavoidable disadvantage of fine needle biopsy and fna is the small amount of specimen, which affects not only the correct diagnosis, but also histological classification and other auxiliary diagnostic techniques such as cytogenetics and electron microscopy
