Sequelae of lumbar anesthesia needle
Dec 15, 2022
The way of anesthesia is intraspinal anesthesia, commonly known as partial anesthesia and lumbar anesthesia, anesthesia in the lower back, the median line of the spine. The needle used for anesthesia is about 12G, with a diameter of 0.15-0.2mm, which is relatively thick. During anesthesia, it successively penetrates the skin, subcutaneous tissue, spinal supraspinous ligament, interspinous ligament and ligamentum flavum to the epidural space to inject anesthetic for epidural anesthesia, or further penetrates the dura and arachnoid space to give drugs to the subarachnoid space for lumbar anesthesia. This is the anesthesia method and operation. General lower extremity, perineum, pelvic cavity, abdominal cavity surgery can choose this kind of anesthesia.
In the process of anesthesia, sharp and thick anesthesia puncture needle will certainly damage the skin, subcutaneous tissue, spinal supraspinous ligament, interspinous ligament, ligamentum flavum, in addition, due to different reasons of personal constitution and the skilled operation of the doctor and other problems, it will also cause spinal periosteum or bone damage, or nerve root damage. These injuries are likely to cause lower back pain or other related area pain. However, these tissues can repair themselves, few sequelae, just depending on the length of time of physical recovery. Nerve root damage is slow to heal itself, but unless it is completely severed and wrapped around the broken end by other tissue, it will heal.
