Is the bone marrow image based on the smear obtained by the bone marrow aspirate, or is it based on the bone marrow biopsy? In other words, does the result of a bone marrow biopsy count as a bone marrow picture?

Feb 07, 2022

Bone marrow images were observed by microscopy by preparing smears from bone marrow aspirate. Bone marrow biopsy is a part of bone marrow histopathological examination. Bone marrow tissue is taken to prepare slices and then observed. Compared with bone marrow images, the results of bone marrow biopsy are suitable for primary or secondary myelofibrosis, some leukemia and lymphoma patients. Interrelationship, hematopoietic cell density and percentage, distribution of hematopoietic tissue, etc., enable doctors to fully understand the pathological changes of bone marrow. The result of bone marrow biopsy is not particularly accurate as a bone marrow image, but doctors usually use "image" to represent the distribution pattern, such as blood image, and don't care too much about this name.
