Is liver biopsy harmful to the human body?
Dec 09, 2021
A liver biopsy is a procedure in which the liver is punctured with a needle and a living tissue is taken for histopathological examination. At present, semi-automatic biopsy needle is mostly used. Before surgery, doctors will use 0.5% lidocaine around the location of the puncture point to perform local anesthesia from the skin to the liver capsule, and patients generally do not suffer.
Liver biopsy is generally safe for patients with normal coagulation and no hepatic hemangioma.
Liver biopsy is carried out under the guidance of color ultrasound, the location and depth of the puncture can be very accurate, can avoid large vessels, will not cause bleeding. Fine needle biopsy only takes out 2 to 3 pieces of liver tissue less than 1 mm thick and 20 mm long, so the damage to the liver is minimal.
