Is a lumbar puncture harmful to the body?

In a multicenter feasibility study of lumbar puncture, the incidence of complications after lumbar puncture was approximately 31%, but most were mild and serious complications were rare. Back pain, headache, and typical PLPH occurred in 17%, 19%, and 9%, respectively. Only 0.3% of patients required blood patch therapy, and 0.7% required hospitalization.
