How to do local infiltration anesthesia?

Aug 28, 2022

Local infiltration anesthesia is a common surgical method, which is to inject anesthetic drugs (such as procaine, lidocaine, etc.) into the subcutaneous tissue and various layers of tissue, and infiltrate into the tissue by drug diffusion to anesthetize the nerve endings and nerve trunk. This anesthesia is mainly used in superficial surgery and simple surgical treatment. There are three main types of anesthesia: linear anesthesia, rhombus anesthesia and surround anesthesia.

1. Linear anesthesia

At the incision line, A 20cm long needle is INSERTED under the skin from the center of the line, extending to one end of the line, injecting 0.25% procaine while pulling the needle backward, to the entry point, then inserting the needle into the other end, and injecting the drug while pulling the needle.

2. Rhombus anesthesia

At the selected surgical site or around the lesion, the needle is made into two opposite points or diagonal lines, and the anesthetic drug is injected subcutaneously on the four sides of the diamond, while injecting and drawing the needle.

3. Surround anesthesia

This method is mainly used for anesthesia of the limbs, in the operation (or affected part), around the limbs
