Discomfort after brachial plexus anesthesia
Aug 27, 2022
First of all, the presence of bruising indicates that there is blood stasis under the skin, which is related to brachial plexus block. I assume that you were given an axillary nerve block, in which a local anesthetic is injected into the nerve sheath of the axillary vessel (somewhere in the armpit) to block the branch of the brachial plexus. The blood vessel was accidentally injured during the puncture, which caused the blood to extravasate into the axillary sheath. Because there was no effective compression to stop bleeding after puncture, or the compression time was not long enough, the compression position was wrong, and the blood spilled out from the axillary sheath and into the subcutaneous skin, which will cause a large bruise under your armpit!
Secondly, I reach out and feel the palm is electrically felt. This is because the nerve is slightly injured during the puncture and the exudated blood has a slight compression effect on the nerve. So it will cause your inductance!
