Consequences that are prone to occur before and after lymph node puncture

Feb 18, 2022

Lymph nodes are distributed in all parts of the body, and many reasons can cause lymph nodes to swell, such as infection (bacteria, viruses, fungi, filarial worms), tuberculosis, hematopoietic tumors (leukemia, lymphoma), and metastases. Lymph node puncture (1ymph nodepuncture) to obtain the aspirated fluid, which can be used to make smears for cytological or bacteriological examinations to assist in the diagnosis of the above-mentioned diseases.

  method

  1. Select the site suitable for puncture, generally take the enlarged lymph node.

  2. Routine disinfection of local skin and operator's fingers.

3. The surgeon fixes the lymph node with the index finger and thumb of the left hand, and holds the 10m1 dry syringe in the right hand to directly pierce the needle into the lymph node. The depth depends on the size of the lymph node. Fluid and cellular components are aspirated.

4. After fixing the inner plug of the syringe and pulling out the needle, remove the syringe, inflate and then spray the extracted liquid from the needle onto the glass slide to make a uniform smear, which is stained and examined by microscopy.

5. Postoperatively, the puncture site was covered with sterile gauze and fixed with adhesive tape.

  Precautions

  1. It is best to puncture before meals, so as not to contain too much lipid in the extract and affect the staining.

  2. If the extract cannot be obtained, the needle can be pierced from the original puncture point again, and continuous puncture in different directions can be performed for several times, as long as no bleeding occurs until the extract is obtained.

3. Pay attention to choose a site that is easy to fix, and the lymph nodes should not be too small and should be kept away from large blood vessels.

4. Pay attention to the appearance of the extract before making a smear. Generally, the color of the fluid extracted from inflammation is yellowish; the tuberculosis lesions can be seen with a cheese-like substance, and the tuberculous pus is yellow-green or dirty gray viscous liquid.
