Are lumbar puncture Needles Risky
Dec 29, 2022
Lumbar puncture is a routine operation in clinical practice, which is an effective way to diagnose various inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system, myelopathy, suspected intracranial space occupying lesions and other central system diseases. However, lumbar puncture also has risks, including the following:
1. Hemorrhagic cerebrospinal fluid may occur. Due to accidental injury of the intraspinal venous plexus by puncture needle, hemorrhagic cerebrospinal fluid may occur in patients with neurological stimulation symptoms.
Two, low intracranial pressure syndrome, low intracranial pressure syndrome is due to lumbar puncture needle too thick or premature postoperative bed, so that cerebrospinal fluid outflow, resulting in low intracranial pressure, can also cause the patient sitting headache aggravation, accompanied by nausea, vomiting symptoms.
3. The original neurological symptoms are suddenly aggravated. Due to the decrease of buoyancy and padding effect after cerebrospinal fluid withdrawal, the neurological symptoms are aggravated and even the occurrence of cerebral hernia.
Iv. Cauda equina nerve root injury, resulting in neurological symptoms due to puncture.
V. Postoperative infection, due to lax disinfection can cause infection of the puncture site and nervous system.
