1. Al-li alloy is the fastest developing field of aviation metal materials in recent decades. Lithium is the lightest metal element in the world. When lithium metal is added to aluminum metal as an alloying element, aluminum lithium alloy is formed. With the addition of lithium metal, the specific gravity of the alloy can be reduced, the stiffness can be increased, while still maintaining high strength, good corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance, and appropriate ductility. The density of aluminum alloy decreases by 3% and the modulus increases by 6% for every 1% Li added to aluminum alloy. It is estimated that if Boeing uses advanced aluminum-lithium alloy instead of traditional aluminum alloy, weight can be reduced by 14.6%, fuel can be saved by 5.4%, aircraft cost will be reduced by 2.1%, and the annual flying cost of each aircraft will be reduced by 2.2%. Therefore, al-Li alloy is considered as the most ideal structural material for aerospace.
