Significance of debridement:
First, in order to evaluate the wound properly, we must be able to see the tissue structure of the wound bed. Dead or deactivated tissue not only impedes wound healing, but also increases the risk of infection and sepsis.
Dead tissue or foreign matter is a good culture medium for bacteria. The goal of debridement is to "return" the wound to its acute state, thereby restarting and accelerating the normal healing process of the wound.
Second, biofilms were found to be present in 60% to 90% of chronic wounds. Mature biofilms have physical and metabolic defense mechanisms.
These defense mechanisms allow biofilms to resist host immunity, antimicrobials, fungicides, antibiotics, and ultraviolet light. Sequential instrument debridement can promote wound healing by disrupting biofilm growth and inhibitors.
Debridement is used to remove dead tissue or foreign matter from a wound.
There are many methods of debridement, with different definitions and indications. Surgical and conservative debridement of sharp instruments is considered invasive because of the use of surgical instruments. Medical personnel should follow the rules of their respective practice areas and institutions (doctors, nurses, specialist nurses, physician assistants, etc.) in their clinical practice.
