Which patients need fine needle aspiration?

The following patients are recommended to undergo thyroid fine needle aspiration:

1. Nodules with a diameter> 10mm;

2. Ultrasound found nodules with extracapsular growth or abnormal cervical lymph nodes, regardless of size;

3. A history of cervical radiation in childhood or adolescence;

4. First-degree relatives of differentiated thyroid cancer, MTC or MEN2;

5. Those who underwent surgery for thyroid cancer in the past;

6. There is no interfering factor that decreases the level of calcium and increases;

7. Those with a diameter of <10mm and a malignant tendency found on ultrasound or with ≥2 high-risk factors suspected of being malignant on ultrasound;

8. Nodules whose volume increased by more than 50% or the maximum diameter increased by more than 20% during follow-up;

9. Nodule height>transverse diameter; solid part of cystic nodules>50% and nodule diameter>20mm.
