The acquisition of pathological tissue for histological examination (observation of subtle tissue variation under a light microscope) is of decisive significance for the diagnosis of disease. A similar examination method is cytological examination by suction cells, but the accuracy of cytological examination is lower than that of histology examination, which has a certain false negative rate. However, the accuracy of histology examination is 100% under the premise of successful sampling.
The procedure for a histological biopsy of the liver goes like this. Under the guidance of B-ultrasound images, the doctor holds the B-ultrasound probe and the medical biopsy needle (in general, the biopsy needle is fixed on the B-ultrasound probe through a special adapter, except for hands-free puncture) directly into the intercostal skin, shoots the puncture needle at the lesion to cut the pathological tissue and quickly pulls out the needle.
Nowadays, due to the improvement of puncture needle, the safety of puncture histology biopsy is significantly improved, and the use of liver histology biopsy is becoming more and more common, while the use of aspiration cytology is decreasing.
