The Specific Procedure Of Biopsy Needle
Jan 04, 2023
The biopsy procedure is completed in seven steps:
1. Sources of living tissue specimens: mainly from surgical cutting, forceps, collection and scraping specimens. The specimen is taken by the clinician, and the specimen taken should be packed in a specimen bag with patient information, time of removal and fixed time indicated on the specimen bag.
2. Specimen fixation: The obtained tissues should be immediately immersed in 10% neutral formalin, and the amount of fixation solution should be 5-10 times the size of the specimen. The time required for specimen fixation depends on the size of the specimen, which is generally 4-6 hours for small specimens and 18-24 hours or longer for large specimens.
3. Specimen examination, specimen numbering and registration, specimen observation and sampling, specimen examination, no matter the size of the specimen, should carefully observe and record its shape, size, color, surface and section changes, whether there are abnormal lesions and tumors, and the relationship with the surrounding. The size of the tissue for biopsy was 1.5×1.5cm and the thickness was 0.2-0.3cm.
4. Preparation of tissue sections: automatic dehydrators and dyeing machines are now used to complete the preparation. Procedures include fixation, dehydration, transparency, waxing, embedding, slicing, dyeing, sealing, labeling;
5. After the completion of pathology preparation, the tissue sections are handed over to the pathologist, and the technician checks the number of sections with the doctor, makes the handover and records;
6. Film reading: The sections are observed under the optical microscope, the pathological tissues and cell morphology are analyzed and recognized, and various diseases are diagnosed by combining the gross eyes and clinical data. However, for some difficult and rare cases, on the basis of the above routine examination, auxiliary diagnosis by histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy or molecular biology technology is needed.
7. Signing and issuing of pathological diagnosis report: The signing and issuing of pathological diagnosis report should be completed with the clinician. In the case that no special examination is required, the biopsy process takes about 5-7 days from the receipt of the specimen to the signing and issuing of the pathological report.
