Soft tissue biopsy is the process of removing a small sample of biopsy tissue from the body for examination. A sample can be removed using a needle or surgically, and the resulting tissue specimen is examined under a microscope to look for abnormal cells. There are many different types of soft tissue biopsies, but they all have the same goal of removing a small sample of living tissue so that signs of disease can be studied. Some common examples of soft tissue biopsies include breast biopsies, skin biopsies, and lymph node biopsies.
