Endoscopic Ultrasound Needle Biopsy Why Do So

EUS can create images of the inner walls and walls of any organ along the gastrointestinal route. An EUS device placed under the throat can capture images of the esophagus, stomach and part of the small intestine. An EUS device inserted through the anus captures images of the rectum, parts of the large intestine (colon), and surrounding tissues such as lymph nodes.
Internal organs or nearby structures can also be visualized, including the following:
lung
Central thoracic lymph node
liver
The gall bladder
Bile duct
The pancreas
EUS with fine needle aspiration or other instruments can also reach these other organs. For example, a needle can travel through the wall of the esophagus to a nearby lymph node. Similarly, needles can pass through the stomach wall to deliver drugs to the pancreas.
EUS and EUS-guided procedures can be used in the following situations:
Assess tissue damage from inflammation or disease
Determine if cancer is present or has spread to the lymph nodes
To assess the extent to which cancerous (malignant) tumors invade the tissue
Determine the advanced stage of the cancer
Provides more detailed information about lesions identified using other imaging techniques
Extract fluid or tissue for diagnostic tests
Drain fluid from the cyst
Deliver treatment to target areas, such as malignancies
