Percutaneous hepatocentesis biliary drainage (PTCD) is a technique in which a catheter is placed percutaneous through the liver in the biliary tract under imaging techniques (X-ray or B-ultrasound guidance). For many biliary diseases, PTCD is the first choice of treatment and can also be a palliative treatment.
Local anesthesia (1% lidocaine, local infiltrative anesthesia) is first administered to the puncture site before the treatment is performed. You need not fear, PTCD as a minimally invasive operation, local anesthesia is fully sufficient to achieve satisfactory analgesic effects.
